Parents always want the best for their children, especially when it comes to keeping them healthy and safe.

Maintaining your child's oral health can be a little tricky, especially when it involves teaching them proper brushing and flossing techniques. At Norco Family Dental, our friendly dental team is always happy to provide informative tips to help your little one maintain a healthy smile.

Brush at Least Twice Daily

We've all heard how important brushing is, which it absolutely is! Almost nothing is more crucial for your son's or daughter's oral health than regular teeth brushing.

Proper brushing should always be for two minutes, with back and forth and up and down motions. Brushing the tongue can get rid of many harmful bacteria and eliminate bad breath.

It's never too early to start brushing teeth, but many children can begin brushing unsupervised around six to eight. Often, parents may have to assist or brush their child's teeth until they can master the task. It's important to use soft-bristled toothbrushes gently to avoid hurting their teeth or gums.

Don't Keep Old Toothbrushes for Too Long

Now that we've mastered the fine art of brushing teeth let's focus on the tools. Using a toothbrush for too long gives bad bacteria the chance to get in your child's mouth. We recommend replacing the toothbrush every three months to keep your child's mouth sparkling and fresh.

Floss Every Day

Brushing and flossing are synonymous with good oral health and fine at-home dental discipline. Since they're both equally integral to fighting the battle against infection and disease, it's easier to do them simultaneously. Flossing can be difficult for young children, so we recommend floss picks to make things fun and simple.

Visit Our Children's Dentists in Greeley Regularly

Ideally, your precious one should see us at least every six months for their dental cleaning and exam. We can get rid of any built-up plaque that can easily lead to cavities, tooth decay, infection, or gum disease. We use digital x-rays to identify developing oral issues before they take hold and threaten you child's oral health.

Fluoride Treatments to Reduce Risk of Cavities

Fluoride is a naturally-occurring mineral that can protect and strengthen the enamel; it especially keeps your teeth healthy from cavities and tooth decay. Children who often get cavities may benefit from this dental treatment.
