At Norco Family Dental, our goal is to help patients preserve and keep their natural teeth for a lifetime. Sometimes, tooth extraction is the best option to protect oral and overall health. However, we want to assure you that we only recommend tooth extraction after thoroughly evaluating all other treatment options, ensuring that it is the best course of action for your specific situation.

Here are some of the situations in which we might recommend tooth extraction.

  • Tooth Infection — Root canal treatment can often alleviate a tooth infection if you act quickly to treat it. However, if the infection severely damages the tooth, immediate removal may be necessary to protect the health of your neighboring teeth. Dental infections can also spread to other critical areas of your body, like your brain, underscoring the importance of seeking immediate treatment.
  • Severely Damaged Tooth — Tooth extraction may be the best option if your tooth is decayed, fractured, or damaged beyond repair.
  • Advanced Gum Disease (Periodontitis) — When periodontitis destroys the bone that supports your teeth, tooth extraction is needed.
  • Wisdom Teeth — Most people can't support wisdom teeth or third molars, and we may recommend extraction.

If you need a tooth extraction in Greeley, CO, our team is highly skilled and well-equipped to make the procedure and your experience stress-free.

Do Wisdom Teeth Really Have to Be Extracted?

There are some cases where patients can keep their wisdom teeth intact; however, most people don't have enough space in their mouth to accommodate them. Here are some other reasons we may recommend removing wisdom teeth.

  • Cleanliness—Wisdom teeth are at the back of your mouth and are hard to reach for proper brushing and flossing. If you can't clean them properly, you increase your risk of developing tooth decay and gum disease.
  • Impaction — Wisdom teeth that don't erupt fully and remain stuck below the gumline (impaction) can cause an infection.
  • Crowding — Wisdom teeth may crowd your healthy teeth and cause tooth or bite misalignment.
