The start of a new school year is an excellent time to begin new routines that promote good habits! Today, we'll help parents figure out the best way to establish effective routines that ensure excellent oral health habits that kids can take into adulthood. Here are some tips.

#1 Create a Consistent Home Care Routine

Daily tooth brushing and flossing are the foundation for a healthy smile. When they are consistently done twice daily for brushing and once for flossing, you can avoid many common dental concerns, such as tooth decay, cavities, and gum disease.

Brushing after breakfast in the morning and before bedtime at night helps create the consistency that forms good habits and protects your child's happy, healthy smile.

#2 Provide Healthy Snacks

Growing kids need a lot of fuel for their brains and bodies! Promote good oral health by providing healthy food choices and snacks for them at school and home.

Avoid sugary and starchy snacks, which promote the environment for tooth decay to develop. Instead, rely on fresh fruits and vegetables to satiate them. Fruits and veggies increase saliva flow, a natural protectant against the acids and bacteria that cause tooth decay.

#3 Book Their Preventive Teeth Cleanings and Checkups Early

Stay on top of your child's schedule and book their preventive care appointments early so you can enjoy a wide selection of appointment times to fit their busy schedules. This means less time they have to miss school and essential learning time.
